The soft reflection of moonlight on the ocean’s surface moves in a mesmerizing mirage. Its white center fades in the ripples that surround me. As I float weightlessly in the unknown, I feel sheltered. The ocean is cordial and delightfully awkward. Its graceful touch and calming spirit overcome me. The soothing aura of the moonlight numbs my chilled skin and as I drift on the surface, I remember my first moments here. I remember standing on the ship’s edge, looking into the darkness beyond. I remember being captivated by the allure of the ocean. Its sirens calling me overboard and beneath the fluorescent glow. As soon as my heart broke the surface, I was left disarmed and lustful for what awaited me. Days became weeks in these waters and each night I rose back to the surface to catch another glimpse of those midnight reflections. Tonight, I dream of the future. I dream of where this echo of light will take me and how I will ever recover from the moonlight that rests on the waves.
