Silence

Dear Silence,
You never do say much. It is so kind of you to let me speak for hours on end without interruption. I often worry I have spoken out of turn with you. I worry you will feel neglected. You know, silence, you are much different than the silences others describe. You are loud, boisterous, and kind. When I cannot find the words to fill the air, you speak for me in a soft bell-like ring. You fill the blank space in my mind as you sound from ear to ear. It reminds me that you are still here, that you haven’t decided to leave me like the others have. You understand me in ways no one else does and you rest willingly in the back when I am engaged in something else. You are always so happy to stand by and let me experience the world. I have heard you are an experienced traveler yourself. You fill the world, consistently giving it everything you have. All just to ensure there is never a moment of dead-air. I fear what a moment of dead air would do to a place like this. A place so used to motion, noise, and distraction. I love the way you know when I need to rest. When I have nothing to say, you come alive. You allow me to learn more about myself and ponder my questions till I find a conclusion. You sit center, as a proud moderator, cheering me on through every thought, every creative idea. You help me flourish and grow. All while sitting there still, effortlessly still.
Thank you silence, you are a beautiful entity.
