When the Sun Shines Bright
The forest is blue
in the heat of ethereal light.
Darkness fills the air
while the sun shines bright.
Above the treetops, there is calm.
A quietness known to the very few.
Underneath, intertwined limbs
conceal a malignant chaos.
On the abandoned truck bed,
The boys, they are eight, maybe nine.
They dream of the quiet on the outside.
They stand in the daylight, frozen in time.
In the clearing, they move closer
to the sun, beaming in radiant skies.
To warm up, to experience,
if only with their eyes.
They stand and stare for hours,
A moment held by distraction,
a piece of imagination towers
over their growing minds.
The forest is blue
while the sun shines bright.
